Our School
Kwik Kix Martial Arts was established as a business in the Nautilus Fitness Center in Wytheville, Virginia in 1999. This Martial Arts school was recognized and authorized by Jearl E. Sutherland, who is my martial arts instructor and a close friend. I am ranked as a 3rd degree black belt under Mr. Sutherland.
Mr. Sutherland is a 6th degree black belt under 10th degree black belt Kick Boxer, Joe Lewis. Mr. Sutherland is also the owner and operator of the Academy of Martial Arts and the Nautilus Fitness Center. After opening my school at Nautilus Fitness Center, I continued to teach and train for nine years. Finally, due to lack of space and the growing number of students, KKMA had to make the decision to move to a larger facility.
Therefore, as of January 16th, 2007, we finally re-located our facility on 1320 west main street, next to the Moose Lodge. During the six months of hard work and renovations to the upstairs (July-December 2006) of a white cinder block building known at one time in the late 1940-1950’s as the John Deere Tractor and Good Year Tire business, then sold to the Pat Con pasteboard company, we managed to finally get moved into the upstairs of the old warehouse. Click here for pictures of renovations.
Interestingly enough, in 1984, when I was 18 year old, I worked in the upstairs of this facility where the karate school is presently located. At that time, Pat Con was renting the upstairs to New Tech Machine Shop, owned and operated by Brent Moore. Who would have thought that God would have brought me back after 22 years. Furthermore, after leasing the upstairs from the Cabinet Connection, Chris and Dottie Robinson, who presently owned the warehouse, and investing our own money in renovations, through prayer and lots of faith, we ended up purchasing the building on March 30th of 2009. We are presently giving the facility a new face lift and will continue to do so over the years to preserve it.
Kwik Kix Martial Arts & Fitness, LLC is blessed with over 3,000 square feet of training area. When martial art training is not taking place at its scheduled time, the facility is used as a personal training salon and gym also known as A Step Above, Personal Training Concepts. In addition, the space is also being used to serve church members working with missions in our local area.
